Our article Transparency in Cooperative Online Education is published in IRRODL http://www.irrodl.org/index...The article Transparency in Cooperative Online Education, which I wrote with Christian Dalsgaard, has been published in IRRODL. As an experiment it has been formatted for iphones , kindle etc. I would really appreciate some feedback here.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss the following question: What is the potential of social networking within cooperative online education? Social networking does not necessarily involve communication, dialogue, or collaboration. Instead, the authors argue that transparency is a unique feature of social networking services. Transparency gives students insight into each other’s actions. Cooperative learning seeks to develop virtual learning environments that allow students to have optimal individual freedom within online learning communities. This article demonstrates how cooperative learning can be supported by transparency. To illustrate this with current examples, the article presents NKI Distance Education’s surveys and experiences with cooperative learning. The article discusses by which means social networking and transparency may be utilized within cooperative online education. In conclusion, the article argues that the pedagogical potential of social networking lies within transparency and the ability to create awareness among students.

Hello,

I was led to your site by Carolina Vega- she attended EDEN 2009 and
discussed the Master's of Distance Education Buddy Program that I am working
with several people there. Your presentation on the NKI program has been
extremely informative for me. However, I am writing this evening to comment on
your article for the IRRODL being optimized for Kindle and other devices.

I
have a Sony E-Reader, the PRS 505 version and had no problems at all in
accessing your file in that format. The E-pub format opened immediately on my
Adobe Digital Editions software.

I, for one, am very pleased to see more DE
related journal articles available in this format. Granted there is no note
taking option in the Sony Reader but the mobility alone is very helpful
considering the amount of reading in my MDE courses.

Sincerely,

Julie
